National Apprenticeships Week 2018: Events & Activities for Individuals

School pupils, recent school leavers, employed staff and other individuals in Liverpool City Region who are interested in following the Apprenticeships route into long term careers had access to a wide range of events and activities during National Apprenticeships Week (5th to 9th March). Here is a run-down of what was on offer:

Young Chamber Career & Skills Show 6th March
LCR Apprenticeship Hub sponsored a free Careers Inspiration Show for school pupils to meet over 60 businesses across all sectors including Engineering, Manufacturing, IT, Telecommunications, HR, Law, Finance, Childcare, Healthcare, Travel & Tourism, Sport and more. The event took place at The Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead, and as well as career zones, there was an Apprenticeship Zone where pupils could meet Apprenticeship Ambassadors and hear about their journeys.

Making a Life, Making a Difference, Making a Living event 7th March
On behalf of LCR Apprenticeships Hub, Windmills delivered this exciting event for individuals wanting to reach their full potential and organisations who support others to achieve. The free event introduced iCan, a new and innovative development from Windmills as part of a portfolio of activities, resources and tools to help people achieve their full potential. It was held at Central Library on William Brown Street

MAST event 6th & 8th March, Martin Luther King Venue, Albert Dock
These two events saw apprentices and employers from across the North West come together to celebrate the success of Apprenticeships and encourage more people to choose Apprenticeships as a route to a great career. On board a tall ship berthed in Albert Dock, MAST created the environment for students and employers to meet each other and discuss prospects.

JCP Apprenticeship Event 5th March  Everton Football Club
The Hub supported an event targeting predominantly 18 to 24 year olds who live in the Everton and West Derby districts. The event provided information about Apprenticeships with several exhibitors on hand to give advice.

Apprenticeships Work Apprentice Open Day Alder Training 5th March
This was an open day for individuals to find out about apprenticeships Alder Training offer in dental nursing, childcare, social care, business admin, customer services and management. Attendees had the opportunity to discover more about the benefits of apprenticeships and paid on-the-job training, meet expert tutors, take part in interactive taster sessions and chat to careers staff.

Apprenticeship for Ambitious People Open Day 5th March Liverpool Chamber of Commerce
This was an open day for 16 to 24 year olds, introducing the Fast Track to Apprenticeships course which provides the skills, knowledge and qualifications to help people get an Apprenticeship. Through a partnership with Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, St Helens Chamber are currently working with over 200 Liverpool-based employers helping individuals start on an apprenticeship in as little as 2 weeks. LJMU Degree Apprenticeships Open Day 6th March
An open day was held for students, individuals, parents and teachers to find out about degree apprenticeships available at LJMU. Apprenticeships combine degree education with workplace experience, and offer learners the opportunity to earn while they learn. Guests at the event heard from academic teams and visited the state of the art teaching and lab facilities available at LJMU. There was also the chance to meet with employers from a range of sectors who have apprenticeship opportunities ready to start in September 2018.

Wirral Met Open Evening 6th March 16:00, Birkenhead
Wirral Met held an Apprenticeship event for school leavers, adults and employers interested in finding out more about Apprenticeships

Shape the Future of Engineering, The Engineering College 6th March
A successful open day which provided information, advice and guidance on engineering apprenticeships, and guided tours around the college’s state-of-the-art facilities plus an opportunity to meet with local employers, renowned for their work in the engineering industry

Schools events
A number of schools and learning establishments held Apprenticeship information sessions and events during Apprenticeship Week. These include Calderstones School, St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Centre for Learning, Lord Derby Academy, and Halewood Academy.

Greater Merseyside Learning Providers Federation (GMLPF) visited a number of schools to deliver Apprenticeships presentations to school pupils as part of the Apprenticeships Support & Knowledge for schools programme (ASK).
